About Taylor Jenkins Reid

Taylor Jenkins Reid is an American novelist and screenwriter whose career began in film production and casting. An Emerson College graduate, she moved from contemporary relationship novels into historical fiction centered on ambitious women and the industries that shape their public images. Her first novel, Forever, Interrupted, appeared in 2013.

Reid often writes about the gap between a celebrated persona and the more complicated person behind it. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo frames a retired film star’s life as a long interview with journalist Monique Grant. Daisy Jones & The Six uses an oral-history structure to reconstruct the rise and collapse of a fictional rock band. Malibu Rising and Carrie Soto Is Back turn to surfing and professional tennis while keeping fame, sacrifice and self-invention in view.

Her novels include One True Loves, Maybe in Another Life and Atmosphere, as well as her best-known Hollywood and celebrity stories. Daisy Jones & The Six became a Prime Video limited series, with Reid credited as a producer. Netflix is developing The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo as a feature film, with Reid serving as an executive producer.

Start with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Its interview structure makes Reid’s central concerns immediately clear: who controls a famous woman’s story, what she must conceal to survive, and how ambition can protect a life while also narrowing it. Next, try Daisy Jones & The Six for another invented cultural history told through competing memories.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Reclusive screen legend Evelyn Hugo summons little-known journalist Monique Grant to record the truth behind her celebrated career and seven marriages. Moving from 1950s Hollywood to the present, Evelyn describes how ambition, sexuality, reinvention, and carefully managed publicity shaped both her stardom and her private life. Her account gradually reveals that the husbands named in the title were only part of the story: the defining relationship of her life was one she could not safely acknowledge in public. Meanwhile, Monique must determine why Evelyn selected her and what to do with a confession that may transform her own understanding of family, success, and moral responsibility.
